A Christmas Cracker - presented by YMCA Productions
YMCA Productions are once again getting ready to kick off the festive season with their annual pre-Christmas show; it will be called A Christmas Cracker 2013. The show has become a very popular part of the YMCA Theatre’s calendar and everyone involved loves working on it, trying to create that special Christmas magic.
This year the show involves a cast of over 150 local people, with an age range of 8 years to adults. We are delighted to have guest appearances from some of the groups who are based at the YMCA, including Rowlies Academy of Dance, Yorkshire Coast School of Ballet, Variety School of Dancing and our own Y-Musical Theatre School. We will also be showcasing some great local adult singers including Michael O’Brien, Carly Zoeller, Lisa Smith, Mellissa Jones, Rebecca Boag, Gillian Marshall, James Aconley,(who is appearing on Friday only) and Jane Daniel all of whom complement our very own YMCA productions team and younger talented performers, who are too numerous to list. Add to this mix our Illusion team, Quick Silver and the Winter Wolves; and you have one great Variety Show with something for everyone! We are also pleased this year to be joined by the Clasen Singing group who will be entertaining the audience pre show and during the interval with some festive songs in the theatre bar.
Alongside all this, we are thrilled to welcome back a very popular and well-known member of the YMCA - Mr Danny Rhodes, who has agreed to come back and perform a couple of numbers in each of the performances. Danny found fame on ITV’s Grease is The Word in 2010 after reaching the semi-finals of this TV talent show. He has just finished a world cruise performing on The MS Prinsendam, and has kindly agreed to show off his singing talents once again in the Scarborough YMCA Theatre where it all began.
Performances are on Friday 29th & Saturday 30th November at 7,30pm, there will also be a matinee performance at 2pm on Sunday 1st December.
This promises to be a cracker of production stuffed full with festive family entertainment.

Rockin' Carols 2013
‘Rockin’ Carols’ is a unique interpretation over the course of an hour and a half of aspects of the traditional Christmas Story in a blend of song and dance with a dash of comedy for good measure. As usual we’ll have choirs and soloists, classical ballet and modern dance, traditional carols played by a rock band and a chance right at the beginning of the Christmas season to go with the shepherds to Bethlehem to see and worship the Christmas Child.
This year's guests include the original Singing Vicar, Mike Leigh, with choirs and instrumentalists from St Martin's School and Hackness School (Monday 2nd December) and Seamer School (Tuesday 3rd December) as well as a host of familiar faces from previous years. We are also featuring a short presentation on the Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal which involves so many local children (and adults too!).
Don’t miss the only show in Scarborough to have featured music by both The Pogues and Elizabeth Poston, quotations from T S Eliot and Homer Simpson, a meditation on the intractable political situation in Israel and Palestine and a staged reconstruction of those first century shepherds as they washed their socks by night. Join us to celebrate in words and music the joy and wonder of the birth of Jesus with flashes of sublime spiritual insight counterbalanced by moments of utter silliness – you will have to decide which is which.
Tickets include a free mince pie after the show. Now that’s the true spirit of Christmas!
2nd and 3rd December 2013 at 7.30pm

Sleeping Beauty - YMCA Productions' 2013 Pantomime
Christmas just wouldn't be the same without a visit to the YMCA Pantomime!
We are delighted to say that this year's panto is directed by James Aconley - a fantastic local performer who first appeared on the YMCA stage 9 years ago at the age of 11 and who has since gone on to perform his own shows around the area, as well as recently starting his own performing arts school in York.
Sleeping Beauty promises to be a traditional panto for the whole family to enjoy. Get your tickets now from the YMCA Box Office.
