Even though the evidence is damming, Leonard Vole - a naive young man, convinces the perceptive Sir Wilfred Robarts Q.C. that he is innocent of murdering a rich woman - Miss Emily French.
The testimony of Vole's wife is expected to result in an acquittal, but only Agatha Christie could have conceived a suspenseful thriller with many twists.
The play, set mainly in a courtroom, was made famous by the 1957 film starring Marlene Dietrich, Tyrone Power and Charles Laughton.
Charles Laughton, born in Scarborough, took part in amateur productions before becoming a professional actor. He died in 1962.

Ruddigore - presented by West Yorkshire Savoyards Appreciation Society

When they make their annual visit to the YMCA Theatre this year, the West Yorkshire Savoyards will be presenting a performance of Ruddigore.
Although not one of the best known of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, Ruddigore is a romp, with wonderful music, plenty of laughs and lots of ghosts.
In Ruddigore, Gilbert set out to parody the over-the-top melodramas that were so popular in Victorian times. The opera has all the hammy characters you would expect in melodrama; an evil, moustache twirling baronet, a virtuous maiden, a country swain and a mad woman. And, of course, there is a troop of ghosts who come down from their portraits to inflict agonies on the Baronet of Ruddigore.
The opera provides an afternoon of fun for all the family. Why not come along?
